5 tips for ideal editing with Capture One | Philip Reichwein for Capture One

Reading time: 4 minutes - May 21, 2022 - by Philip Reichwein - In the context of the Online Photo Days in May 2022

as part of our Online Photo Days

Capture One expert Philip Reichwein will present tips and tricks for ideal editing in Capture One! Have fun.

1. Try all the sliders at maximum!

Dare - Capture One is a non-destructive tool. So you can always go back to your previous steps at any time! And far too many users have not tried every slider or dragged it to +- 100%. Do this so you can see how an effect works and how far you can use it.

2. Speed editing for an ultra-fast workflow

Capture One allows you to change individual effects by holding down keys and moving the mouse. So you can edit one or dozens of images at once with just one movement. You've never edited so fast!

3. Stacking styles

You know that you can save your editing steps as a "style"? But do you know that you can apply several of these styles to your image? Why? To make you a) faster and b) even more creative. Because combining different styles can produce real masterpieces. AND adding a style to an extra new layer even allows you to adjust the effect via opacity OR brush in specifically!

4. Magic with the "Magic Brush

You only want to change certain areas? Then the magic brush is ideal! You brush over your desired color and only this is masked. Ideal to quickly mask and then perform your editing.

5. Last but not least - The STIL brush

One of my favorite tools! You can save your settings as a style, you already know that, BUT did you know that you can save this style + brush settings as a style brush? Then in the future, you click on your desired style brush and you're just brushing in the effect where you want to change something. It doesn't get any faster than that!

Travel photography - Bikepacking Slovenia

In June 2022 we made a bikepacking tour through Slovenia. 2 weeks only with the Gravelbike on the road. The memories were of course extremely important to us, especially because of our photo book, which we wanted to create afterwards. But especially since you have to think about every gram when bikepacking, you also need light equipment in the photo area. Our Fujifilm X-T20 (successor X-T30II) with the 23mm f/2.0 was the perfect choice for us. You can read about the challenges and exciting experiences we had on this trip in this blog post.
