The new standard lens for PENTAX SLR cameras
The technical specifications that a lens in the Stern series has to meet are one part of the development process, the other part is the target group and the area of use that the new lens design is intended to cover.

This lens was designed to meet the market's demand for a fast fixed focal length for universal use.

With a focal length of 50 mm and a maximum aperture of F1.4, the new lens is perfect for reportage shots in available light, for example, or for portrait shots with particularly beautiful bokeh.

State-of-the-art optical technology
Glass quality and the treatment and finishing of the individual lenses are still the most important foundations for high image quality. For example, specially selected glass is used in the manufacture of PENTAX lenses, which is treated with a High Definition (HD) coating and an "Aero Bright Coating II" developed by PENTAX. This nanotechnology-based lens coating, which is applied to the multi-layer HD coating with a uniform porous structure, reduces the average reflection in the visible light spectrum to less than 50% of conventional multi-layer coatings, effectively reducing flare and ghosting - even in difficult backlight conditions.

The use of three ultra-low dispersion glass elements and an aspherical element effectively compensates for chromatic and spherical aberrations and produces brilliant images with high contrast and edge sharpness.

As distortion is minimized even at close focusing distances, the new 50 mm Lens delivers razor-sharp, distortion-free images over the entire focusing range, from 40 cm to infinity.

The aperture design is also of particular importance. The nine aperture blades in a circular arrangement at apertures F1.4 - F2.8 ensure a particularly balanced and natural bokeh. At the same time, they minimize flare from point light sources.

The Lens is equipped with the KAF4 bayonet. With the corresponding cameras (K-1 Mark II, K-1, K-3 II, K-3, KP, K-70, K-S2 and K-S1), the aperture is controlled electromagnetically. This also ensures flawless and precise exposure control when shooting video.

Dustproof and weather-resistant construction
A standard or universal lens requires particularly comprehensive features. The AW (All Weather) equipment, with eight special sealing rings, prevents the penetration of moisture and dust into the interior of the lens. In combination with a correspondingly weather-resistant digital SLR camera from PENTAX, it forms a durable and reliable camera system, which is also a reliable tool in demanding shooting situations, such as in rain, fog, splash water or sub-zero temperatures down to -10°C.

The front lens is also equipped with the Super-Protect (SP) coating. It reduces dirt and moisture adhesion and facilitates cleaning, e.g. from splash water or greasy substances.

Newly developed ringSDM autofocus drive
The new HD PENTAX-D FA★ 50mm F1.4 SDM AW is equipped with a new ring SDM autofocus. It has 7.5 times the torque of conventional Lens. It ensures consistently fast and quiet focusing via the rear lens group.
