This lens is a symbol of SIGMA quality and the ideal standard lens. It delivers outstanding performance and fulfills the concept of our Art product line to the highest degree. It provides incredibly balanced images with a wonderful bokeh and sets a new standard for fast standard lenses.

Using all the experience and latest design technologies gained from past developments, it effectively corrects aberrations and achieves high resolution and amazing imaging performance, even at the edges of the image.

High resolution with wonderful bokeh
While a high resolution is required for the subject in focus, a beautiful bokeh is desired outside the focal plane for a smooth transition of focus. Imaging errors such as sagittal coma and color distortions, which influence the image quality, are effectively corrected. High-resolution reproduction without blurring is achieved even at open aperture. By reducing vignetting to a minimum and preventing color fringing in front of and behind the point of focus, a very natural bokeh is achieved.

Excellent sagittal coma correction
Ideally, a fast standard Lens already has a high imaging performance over the entire image area at open aperture. The bright pressed aspherical glass lens elements, for example, ensure excellent correction of sagittal coma. Due to the reduced distortion of point light sources at the edges of the image, it is perfect for astrophotography and available light. It also achieves an attractive bokeh for portraits and indoor shots.

Correction of longitudinal chromatic aberrations
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to counter longitudinal chromatic aberrations, which are difficult to correct even during image processing, and ensure high image quality across the entire focus range. As a result, the Lens achieves sharp and high-contrast image reproduction.

Minimized distortion
It is not possible to compensate for distortion simply by changing the aperture values. Thus, the development phase of the Lens was already decisive in minimizing distortion. In the "SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM", each glass element was precisely positioned for optimized force distribution in order to reduce distortion to a minimum.

High edge illumination
The Lens offers very even illumination even at the edges of the image, which can otherwise be a problem with large diameter optical systems. The positioning of large elements in the front lens group improves efficiency when the aperture is open. This helps to minimize vignetting and ensures the utmost clarity across the entire field of view.

Reflection and ghost elimination design
From the beginning of the lens design process, susceptibility to reflections and ghosting is studied to achieve an optical design that is resistant to even strong backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) reduces flare and ghosting and delivers sharp, high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions.
