  • Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8
  • fast super wide-angle lens
  • Super wide-angle perspective - impressive landscape or architecture shots
  • F1.8 lens series - same filter size, consistent handling with accessories & gimbal, among others
  • Lens construction - 13 elements in 12 groups (3 asph., 1 UED, 1 UHR, 3 ED lenses)
  • minimum focus distance - 18 cm / magnification factor 0.2x (equiv. KB: 0.4x)
  • robust design - dust, splash water and cold resistant
  • compact and lightweight - only 8.2 cm long and 340 g light

Fast super wide-angle lens (F1.8) with 18 mm focal length (100° angle of view), ideal for street photography, weddings and landscape photography, among others. The Lens features high imaging performance and thanks to its 9-element circular aperture for smooth, beautiful bokeh in both photos and videos. It is also extremely robust thanks to its dust and splash water protection.

The high-quality Lens works smoothly and silently with the fast, high-precision contrast AF system of the LUMIX S cameras. In the process, the sensor is read out at a maximum of 240 frames per second.

The Lumix S F1.8 lens series thus includes focal lengths of 18mm (NEW), 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, all the way up to 85mm with almost the same compact dimensions & design, which makes handling extremely easy.

Beautiful images across the entire image range
Ultra-wide-angle 18mm Lens, compact and lightweight
High optical performance with 3 ASPH / 1 UED / 3 ED / 1 UHR lens elements
Beautiful bokeh

Video performance for creative use
Smooth exposure changes with micro-stepped aperture control
High-speed AF and quiet operation with internal focus and linear motor
Suppression / suppression of "focus breathing"

Uniform operability with the F1.8 series
Efficient workflow by unifying operability and exterior design
Compact, lightweight, and splash/dust/frost resistant design (down to -10°C)
Unified image rendering that enables convenient post-production

The Lumix S full-frame series thus has a total of five F1.8 fixed focal length lenses: the 85mm Lens (S-S85), the 50mm Lens (S-S50), the 35mm Lens (S-S35), the 24mm Lens (S-S24), and now the new 18mm Lens (S-S18).

They are all characterized by uniform high imaging performance and the same size and position of the controls. The center of gravity of these lenses is nearly identical, so that, even with a camera mounted on a gimbal, quick lens changes are possible with minimal balance adjustment. Thanks to the uniform diameter of 67 mm, the same filters can be used on all lenses. With these five LUMIX F1.8 Lenses, virtually all situations and subjects can be covered. This means that filmmakers have minimal work to do in shooting and post-processing when using these Lenses.

Thanks to its extremely wide angle of view, the LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 is suitable for a wide range of applications such as landscape, architectural, street, and even astro photography. The shortest distance setting of 0.18m extends the range of applications at close range.

The LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 consists of thirteen lens elements in twelve groups, including three aspherical lenses, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses, one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens, and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens. Three aspherical lenses provide high imaging performance as with all F1.8 series lenses. The three ED lenses effectively suppress chromatic aberration. A circular aperture consisting of 9 aperture blades provides beautiful bokeh.

The LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 works smoothly and silently with the fast, high-precision contrast AF system of the LUMIX S cameras. This involves reading the sensor at a maximum of 240 frames per second. Manually, non-linear adjustment varies the amount of focus according to the speed of rotation of the focusing ring, while linear adjustment varies the focus by a constant amount according to the angle of rotation of the focusing ring. The degree of focus shift can be selected depending on the angle of rotation to provide the desired focus character*1. When shooting video, a mechanism in the LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 suppresses "focus breathing," an unsightly problem of interchangeable lenses designed for still photography. Together with micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure variation, this enables professional-quality video capture.

With its compact design and light weight of 340g, the LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 is amazingly portable, especially on the LUMIX S5, currently Panasonic's smallest full-frame model. The rugged, dust- and splash-proof*2 design allows use even in harsh conditions down to -10 degrees.

In the future, Panasonic and the L-Mount System Alliance will continue to work on further lens development to expand the L-Mount System lineup to meet customer needs.

*1 Maximum focusing sensitivity varies depending on camera model.
*2 Dust and splash resistance does not guarantee that the Lens will not be damaged if it comes into direct contact with dust and water.
