For the first time, customers can update the firmware in select Tamron Lenses and customize the various Lens functions as needed by simply attaching a TAMRON TAP-in Console and running the TAMRON TAP-in Utility software on their PC or Mac. Previously, firmware updates could only be made at a TAMRON customer service center. With the new accessories and an Internet connection, customers can access their own website and update the firmware themselves anytime, anywhere. In addition, selected lenses can be customized by changing the various settings based on how the customer wants to use the lens (described below), making it even more versatile and user-friendly.
1. Customized options
With a TAMRON TAP-in console, you have the following options:
2. TAMRON TAP-in-Utility Software
Users download and install the free TAMRON TAP-in-Utility software on their Mac or PC. Updating the firmware and customizing the various lens functions is as easy as connecting the TAP-in console via a USB cable and selecting it. An Internet connection is required for firmware updates.
3. Updating Firmware
Customers can update the firmware of selected Tamron Lenses using this utility software. Additionally, the firmware of the TAP-in console itself can be updated as needed. With an Internet connection and the utility software, the user accesses a dedicated website and easily confirms that the Lens connected to the TAP-in console - and the console itself - have the latest firmware. If a newer version is available, updating is quite quick and secure.
4. Customizing selected Tamron Lenses
Various lens functions can be customized as desired, depending on the lens model and built-in features.
Focus correction
Focus can be adjusted in three accuracy ranges: close-up, mid-range, and long-range. For zoom Lenses with variable focal length ranges, adjustments can be made for up to eight segments, which means that focus adjustment combined is possible for a total of 24 ranges. Lenses with fixed focal length have only one segment, so adjustments are possible for the three distance ranges. The conditions and ranges for possible adjustments may vary depending on the lens model.
Adjusting the Focus Range Limiter
For Lenses equipped with a focus limiter switch, the autofocus range can be adjusted by setting the near and far limits as desired. If the focus limiter switch has three positions, setting the middle range is also possible. Only lens models equipped with the focus limiter function can be adjusted. The conditions and ranges for possible adjustments may vary depending on the lens model.
VC adjustment (only for lenses equipped with VC)
The user can adjust the preferred VC (Vibration Compensation) mode from the options below for any lens compatible with the TAP-in console that is equipped with the VC system.
Prioritize Viewfinder Image Stabilization
This mode prioritizes viewfinder image stabilization
Default (factory setting)
This mode is identical to the factory setting and provides a balance between viewfinder image stabilization and vibration compensation
Prioritize Image Capture Stabilization
This mode provides stable vibration compensation
These options apply only to lens models equipped with the VC system. The conditions and ranges for possible adjustments may vary depending on the lens model.
Anytime manual focus correction
For all Lenses with anytime manual focus correction, you can set the mode to ON or OFF. In addition, you can adjust the sensitivity of the focusing ring with respect to its angular rotation to a desired value between High and Low when the manual focus mode setting is ON.
